Q1. Congratulations on winning DOTY for 2013, how does it feel?
It feels absolutely fantastic and it is truly an honor to be able to win DOTY 2013, one of the most amazing awards out there. It is almost like a miracle for us and we hope we didn't use up our luck for 2014!
Q2. When, why and by whom was SHIFTBRAIN founded and how did the name SHIFTBRAIN come to be chosen?
SHIFTBRAIN was founded in October of 2003 by a small crew of members. The ultimate vision behind the name would be to flip the world upside down by shifting everyone's brain and ruling the world. No, just kidding, but we think that most of the things that happen in our daily lives can become good or bad, depending on how you look at it. That said, we truly believe that we can make the world a better place by shifting the ways we think and how we express, and that is why we are here.
Q3. How many people are working at SHIFTBRAIN?
15 staff are currently on board.
Q4. What did the SHIFTBRAIN team do to keep motivated and inspired throughout 2013?
We tried to focus on projects that we were best at and capable of delivering the best value out of. Projects other than that were passed on to other companies that we knew of or sometimes unfortunately declined.
"As a result, we were able to deliver a lot of good work, but turned out negative on our annual earnings. Hahaha."
Q5. Can you name any websites or apps for designers that the SHIFTBRAIN team are into right now and why?
We think "NIKE TRAINING CLUB" app is hot because the whole package is extremely high quality. It has a beautiful touch on design as it makes it look very neat, yet the information architecture and usability are well thought through which makes this app a one of a kind.
Q6. Can you share any of your best and / or worst client experiences since starting SHIFTBRAIN? For example projects that went like magic or perhaps were a disaster, law suits, fun stuff...
One of the best projects that we ever got involved in would be "BEYOND BY LEXUS" which we have been working for a while now. It is really an amazing experience to be a part of this well organized long running project as communication and engagement is practiced on a longer perspective where many of the campaigns these days tend to be held in a shorter time span. Also the people from Winkreative and Saatchi & Saatchi Fallon Tokyo (agency) are purely professional and we think we are working with the best people we have ever worked with.

Q7. What trends would your team like to see grow in 2014? For example code techniques, colors, layouts, styles...
We think "Parallax Scrolling" and "Data Visualization" can grow a lot more this year.
Q8. Is the SHIFTBRAIN team going to celebrate winning DOTY 2013 and if so how?
Absolutely, we just ordered tons of beer and the finest Sushi in town... Cheers!!
